Juniors vs Redmires Rangers

Yet again atrocious weather conditions keeps following us around. To the credit of both teams good football was played in high winds and driving rain. Millmoor opened the scoring through Lee and then had to survive two one on one moments with Gavin doing brilliant work in goal. Ricky added a second goal just before half time.

Incredibly the wind grew stronger and the rain increased. So did Lee, putting Millmoor three up. Rangers came back with a thunderous free kick on the edge of the area. Not to be outdone, Matt raced 40 yards before blasting in the fourth goal.

Well done to both teams because they played an exciting a game in dreadful conditions.

Final score :     Juniors 4     : Redmires Rangers 1

Man of the match :    Jake (H)

Note : To the 'man' who stood behind the Rangers net and hurled a stream of abusive language towards the referee please note the following :-

(a)     you are surrounded by children

(b)    your opinions should be kept to yourself

(c)    you should look up the word shame in a dictionary

(d)    you should keep away from our ground in future

Juniors vs Hallam Rangers (u'12s)

Another stiff test away at promotion chasing Hallam. We have to go back to September to remember when a ball actually bounced on a pitch and today's surface guaranteed that the trend would continue. But its the same for both teams  and so we got on with trying to play football.

Hallam started brightly and the Juniors as last week defended well. Gradually the balance of play evened itself out as both teams came to grips with the conditions. Hallam were a touch fortunate to take the lead before half time when offside seemed to be the more likely decision.

Millmoor began the second half with passion and started to pepper the Hallam goal with shots. Good work on the left wing by Cushy provided Lee with a glorious chance to equalise, which he did brilliantly.

Back came Hallam with their second goal, Millmoor falling for the old 'ball over the top' routine. Hallam added a third close to full time and ran out worthy winners.

Millmoor can reflect on defending well and working hard. As the pitches start to dry out we should hopefully start to benefit from our skill rather than trying to rely solely on strength & stamina.

Well done everyone.

Man of the match ; Jake Cushworth

Final score :- Hallam Rangers 3 : Juniors 1

Juniors vs Tom Treddlehoyle Boys (u'12's)

The start to the New Year couldn't have been harder, an away trip to the table toppers! A crisp cold morning but with the welcoming sight of the sun not seen for quite a few Sundays. The lads were 'up' for this game. Team tactics were to pack the midfield and defend like hell. Wave after wave of Treddlehoyle pressure was soaked up by stout defending and hitting the opposition on the break. The Boys broke the deadlock just before half time but Millmoor were pleased with their first half work.

Substituting a defender for an attacker and kicking down the slope Millmoor fancied their chances for a win. But it didn't happen. Treddlehoyle beat the offside trap to go two goals up and looked to have bagged the points. With nothing to lose Millmoor fought back. Several corner kicks narrowly went wide and a free kick sailed over the bar. A free kick awarded on the edge of the penalty area was gloriously struck into the net by Matt Brunt to set up an exciting final five minutes.  But time ran out and the points went to the Treddlehoyle Boys.

Final score :- Tom Treddlehoyle Boys 2 : Juniors 1

 U'12'sJuniors vs Pro Socker Pumas ( 15/12/02 )

A Scorching Day In Mid-December

The temperature soared through the roof around Norton on Sunday morning as both teams provided scintillating entertainment. The pitch was muddy, the weather terrible but everyone on the field was determined to make a game of it, and what a game we had.

End to end thrills. Slide tackles galore. Football could be played down the middle but strength and determination was needed down the flanks. Ricky broke the deadlock by latching on to a well timed through ball and planting his shot into the Pumas net. The second half saw gutsy defending from Millmoor but the Pumas seized onto a loose ball on the deadball line, cut it back and banged in the equaliser.

Chances for both teams to win the game came and went and then Gavin pulled off the save of the season with his brand new 'magic' gloves.

All in all a fair result in very testing conditions.

Final Score : Pro Socker Pumas 1  Millmoor Juniors 1

Man of the match :  Jack Ramsden
